I’m so excited to hear that there are plenty of other people interested in doing the Costumer’s ATC exchange! Yay!!! What I’ll do is set up a LJ community for anybody interested in participating (or just watching) and we can organize things there. I’ll try to do that in the next few days.

But for this week’s Art Wednesday, I thought I’d post my first card that I’m made to trade. I decided to do a series of slightly quirky re-drawings of fashionable ladies from my early Edwardian magazines. I started by gluing layers of tissue-paper patterns onto a big sheet of paper, then I cut that down to make a bunch of 2 ½ x 3 ½“ cards. Then I’m drawing on top of that with a variety of media (colored pencil, ink, shoe polish, scratching into the surface with a knife, etc). The first card took me less than 2 hours, and since I’m doing it at work while the kids are drawing, it’s a perfect time killer/demo (I love being an art teacher!). I’ve already started my second one. They are totally addictive!

Oooo... I love the texture of the tissue paper with that. Did you use acrylic?

I've been having fun lately with something similar, except with torn strips of old hardcover Reader's Digests (from the '50s/'60s). It takes watercolors beautifully!
