Okay... I'm going to post this over on the DFGCG mailing list tomorrow, but it's easier to reply to LJ posts, so I thought I'd start here.

If you don't know this already, Chestnut Square is the little living history site that I volunteer at in McKinney. They have decided to do a fashion show in March that features reproduction costumes from 1850-1930. I kindof got put in charge of organizing it with one other lady (eep!), so I am on my knees BEGGING for volunteers who would be willing to be in the show (or even just lend costumes for others to wear). We think it will be on Saturday, March 10th, around 11:00 a.m, but I'll find out more next weekend. We were hoping to get at least one costume from every decade, and we can also do men's, children's, or undies. It has to be "American" in nature though, because that is the scope of the living history site.

So, would any of you good people be willing to help us out this... or know of anybody else who might be interested? I'll bake you cookies and be your best friend forever if you do!

I have my blue late 1890's that I wore to Candlelight!. It's not the most accurate thing I've ever made, but it is still pretty close.

I might even have a hat by then. :D

YAY!!!! You rock!
Monday, December 18th, 2006 05:34 pm (UTC)
I'm willing. :) I've got ladies' Civil War (1861-1865) and men's, both civilian and military, depending upon who I can shanghai.

YAY!!! That would be wonderful! Thank-you so much! :)

I feel odd asking this question, but what is your real name? I tend to think of people by the LJ names, and if I ever knew your real name, I have forgotten it by now! ;)

No worries - I'm just as bad, if not worse! My name is Ginger Lane. I'm on the yahoo list, although I haven't actually joined the group yet - too busy. :-/

Me, me! I will! ^_^ I'll need some help with the hair, maybe (I always just put it in a bun and stick a hat on), but I'd love to. And it gives me just the right push to get out of my computer chair and into my sewing chair, heh.

Matt only has cowboy stuff that is American Victorian...

I'll repost your post in my own LJ so any of my costuming friends who haven't joined can know about it, too.

Excellent! I would be happy to help you with your hair! So what decade would you be wearing?

Thank-you SOOOO much!!!

Most of the stuff I'm interested in making these days is 1878-1881 natural form, as it works best with a gun belt and holsters, and most of my Truly Victorian patterns are from the natural form era. ^_~ That's the era I'll be working on the most until I get around to making an evening/dinner gown for SASS special events.

My sister is willing to participate, too (she actually said "If you're doing it, I will, too"). Heh. I don't remember if hers is early bustle or late, but she's got a bustle. ^_~
Monday, December 18th, 2006 08:16 pm (UTC)
Yay!!! Thank her for me! :)

Seconds the hair thing. I will prolly only have my undies by then. The general year is 1875
Monday, December 18th, 2006 05:58 pm (UTC)
Sweet! We will definitely help each other with hair. Maybe we could even find a hairdresser who would volunteer her services for the day.

Undies would be great. Thank-you so much for being willing to show them off!!!

Crap! That is the week we are on vacation. I may not be able to.
Monday, December 18th, 2006 06:03 pm (UTC)
That's okay - I still really appreciate your offer! The date isn't set in stone yet, so I'll let you know if anything changes.
Monday, December 18th, 2006 06:06 pm (UTC)
~votes to change it to any week after that!~

I'm in! I currently have two bustle period dresses and hopefully by March, I'll have either an edwardian dress or that Belle Epoch.
Monday, December 18th, 2006 10:01 pm (UTC)
Thank-you!!! We don't have many post-bustle dresses lined up yet, so that would be really cool if you got one of those done. ;)
Monday, December 18th, 2006 08:20 pm (UTC)
<--- jaelie's sister. I am so in. What I have is late bustle, I think. I have all the period undies too. I'll pobably need a wig or make a hat work with my short hair (chin-shoulder length).
Monday, December 18th, 2006 09:58 pm (UTC)
YAY!! Thank-you so much!!! I'm sure we can figure out something for your hair.
Monday, December 18th, 2006 09:54 pm (UTC)
The 1888 bustle dress will be finished and the truck should be road worthy by then.
Monday, December 18th, 2006 10:02 pm (UTC)
That would be so wonderful! Thank-you!!!
Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 02:35 am (UTC)
Now I am justified in buying a pair of antique boots *grin*
Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 04:02 am (UTC)
I think I told you before that I can probably participate. I will not have lost the baby weight by then, so I'll probably only want to do a corset and hopefully wear the Truly Victorian undies I already have. I want to make a gown & bonnet for the baby, too. (He'll be about a month old by then) I have a baby carriage that I *think* is probably turn-of-the-century that I'll likely bring to put Alex in if he's sleepy... (Never have put a real baby in it!)
Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 03:14 pm (UTC)
That soundss great! Thanks!!!
Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 08:52 am (UTC)
Oh no, could we possibly get it to be on the NEXT Saturday???I'll be home then! I do however have several high school friends who are about my size and might be interested in modeling some of my stuff.
Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 03:12 pm (UTC)
Well, the date isn't set in stone yet, so we might be able to move it back. I'll check on that at the meeting this weekend.

I'd really LOVE to have you there!
Wednesday, December 20th, 2006 04:15 am (UTC)
When is the meeting? Should I come? I seem to be out of the chestnut square loop.
Wednesday, December 20th, 2006 02:17 pm (UTC)
It's the first planning meeting for the fashion theme month in March. We will be talking about the fashion show and the display of antique garments (I'm hoping we'll get to go rumage around in the attic!), and they want to make some sort of paper dolls book to sell. I'm not sure what else we'll be doing. I think it'll just be me, Colleeen, and Cindy at the meeting. I would love to have you come and put in your 2 cents on everything, but you would probably get sucked into helping out somehow... which you might want to avoid. ;)

Anyway, it's at 10:00 this Saturday at the yellow house if you want to come.

I was looking at [livejournal.com profile] nuranar's flist since she has lots of costumey people friended, and noticed you are in N. Texas. I live in Denton, so I hope you will not mind if I friend you.

Yes, that is off-topic for the post, I know. :)
Wednesday, December 20th, 2006 09:15 pm (UTC)
Cool! It's very nice to meet you!
Thursday, December 21st, 2006 10:45 am (UTC)
Victorian really isn't my era, since I don't have anywhere to wear it regularly enough as to wear the same dress twice, and I got tired of replacing my corset and making new dresses every year. I'm a docent at the Bayliss-Selby House here in Denton, and we only are allowed to dress when we open at night for Christmas events, and then I am the only person who has things to dress in. But I am amused to see that somebody else in the area has events worth dressing up for!
