Lost and found department part two - I also found a small ivory-colored folding fan with rounded tips. Any claimers from the picnic?

Today is my hell day at work. Due to the crazy exam schedule, I teach ALL DAY without a conference. Tomorrow I go all day without a conference OR a lunch break, so it'll suck even worse in some ways, but at least it's the last day with kids, so that somehow seems more bearable. But you can survive anything for 2 days, right?

I'm feeling quite lost in the costuming department. Half of me says to use my momentum and hit the regency dress hard so I get that one over with. The other half says to take a well deserved break from the serious historical stuff and make some fun retro pieces that I can wear in my summer wardrobe. I think retro is winning at the moment. I don't know if anybody else is going to bother with regency for the summer tea party anymore, and I'm feeling quite "meh" about it myself. I'm feeling very "meh" about the 19th c. theme for the tea in general. I would have much rather made another Edwardian dress for it... or even a late 18th c. one. Maybe I'll be a rebel and do that anyway. If I could think of an easy Victorian style, I think I'd rather even do that. Don't get me wrong, I still really want to do regency - it just doesn't seem like much fun if nobody else is going to be wearing it at the tea. And it would be SO nice not to have to waste half my summer on new undergarment projects.

Oh well. We'll see.

oh crap... about 7" long with little ribbons connecting them and slight cut outs? Looks dirty? I couldn't find it but I haven't looked through my car completely.

I say retro! ~only because I'm not going to the tea and I'm not anywhere close to complete regency.

That's the one! I'll throw it in with the table cloth.

I vote retro, too! You'll have some fun AND be able to wear them much more often than the regency.

If you still want to make something new for the tea, there's also Belle Epoch (1890s). You can use your existing Victorian underpinnings but not worry about a bustle. But whatever you make, it will be fabulous!

It's summer. IMHO you should do fun stuff first.

At least you're sewing. I haven't managed to get any sewing in since December 2009! :-(

Retro!

Do what you're enthusiastic for now! Don't stress about the tea; you've got pretty things to wear already. In a little while you'll feel refreshed and we can both hit Regency successfully. Maybe even some sewing days. :D

Yes! I'd love to have a sewing day sometime!

retro! I only say that though because I am in the process of cutting out a 40s dress for when my hubby and I go swing dancing, and I love your inspiration!

I say go with the retro summer wear. You'll likely get more use out of it, and maybe it will help keep you inspired in other costumey areas.

I read about tomorrow's sucky day for you. Tell husband, a native Texan, about this as an illustration to why I love having a teacher's union here in Michigan. He says there's laws requiring them to give you a lunch break?

Oh - and I think your steampunk outfit was mentioned at World Steam Expo as this incredible thing with zouave influences. Unfortunately, by the time I got a chance to ask if it was yours, the lady who had brought it up had ducked out. She ducked back in later, but alas, no chance to ask her.

Yeah, we have that law too, but since I teach at 2 different schools and they are both on funky exam schedules, it was just a fluke that it worked out that way. I mentioned it to the principal today, and she offered to come cover my class for 30 minutes so I could have a break. She's a real sweetheart.

Oh, that is so good to hear!! Hooray for good administration!

I vote retro too - gotta keep the sewing mojo fed. Plus it *is* more fun to have costume company & it sounds like regency is more of a solo at this time.
