I want some more practice making faux CDV/tintype/cabinet card photos, so I got Emma to pose for me at the tea. I think it turned out pretty good for a quickie with bad lighting and background. Here is the original for comparison.

I absolutely love the way you've nailed the card itself, including the way the image is pasted onto it and the writing impressed into it!

However -- the subject has blue eyes, which would show up as pale grey or white because albumen emulsion reacted differently to colors than digital or modern film emulsion does. I'm wondering if reducing the contrast slightly on the image would help with the realism as well?

(Sorry -- I'm photography obsessed!)

Just so you know, your photoshop skillz totally rock -- it's not easy to do any type of duplicating the antique look!

I think the contrast is fine the way it is, but I went back and lightened the eyes (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jen_thompson/3541765106/sizes/l/), and I do think that adds a nice touch. Thanks for the feedback.

I tried on a previous attempt to mimic the effect of a blue filter through photoshop, but I didn't have much luck. I know it can be done - it's just a little over my head. I need to do a bit more research on that one...
