For my weekly art posting, I made a quick sketch of what I have in mind for my steampunk costume. The jacket and vest are inspired by zouave uniforms, but constructed more like an 1880's bodice (i.e. 3/4 sleeves, fitted over a corset). I didn't have time to colorize my sketch, but the jacket is brown wool with charcoal grey edging, trimmed with dark red braid and large brass buttons. The sash will probably be red, and the pants are white. I have some tall brown boots and an assortment of brown belts and pouches and such. The hat would be a red fez inspired by the stylish zouave chick on the bottom of this page. I want a bigass compass to hang from my belt, and then of course there's my bigass telescope. And I think I'm going to buck the goggle trend and just wear my tinted edwardian glasses.

Now we'll see if I actually have the time to make this happen!

I love your sketch, and saw a post on [livejournal.com profile] corsetmakers today that reminded sort of me of it, http://community.livejournal.com/corsetmakers/1504936.html. I hope this helps your inspiration.
