January 9
I finished my 2nd ATC yesterday. I'm loving these things so much! I had to force myself to not start another one so I could get some grading done.

I'll probably stop posting pics of every card that I make in this journal, but please come join the fun at [livejournal.com profile] costumer_atc if you are at all interested in swapping art!

That's so gorgeous! I'm watching the comm so I can see your lovely artwork even if I have nothing to exchange for it!

What if you made a photo ATC? You take such gorgeous photos - surely you could take some sort of costume/sewing/fashion-related photo to trade. Or what if you took one of your flower photos and combined it with a fashion picture. Do you work with photoshop much? I'm thinking that two transparent layers combining an old portrait and a flower might be cool.

I have done photoshop work - I should think about doing this. I'm a little overloaded right now though and not sure I have time for it. If I have time I'll play, if not I'll enjoy your work! :-) Thanks for encouraging me to participate though - I appreciate it, and the compliments on my photos! :-)

Those are so gorgeous! I am jealous - I wish I could take part! Unfortunately I don't see how I could do something along these lines with fiber :-/

Needle felting. :D

You don't need to do something along "these" lines - make it along your own lines! I like to draw, so that's what I'm doing. But I don't expect (or want!) everybody to make drawings. In fact, drawn ATCs are pretty rare - most are collage or craft. There are TONS of fiber artists who make ATCs. What type of fiber art do you want to do? Here are examples of a needlefelted ATC (http://www.flickr.com/photos/judyscott/2879751777/), a woven ATC (http://tanglecrafts.wordpress.com/tag/freeform-weaving/), stitched ATC (http://www.flickr.com/photos/23261611@N04/2669560848/), one that focuses on hand-dyed fabric (http://flickr.com/photos/judyscott/2036792521/), or even a knit ATC (http://www.flickr.com/photos/61658248@N00/364279233). If you can't draw, use clip art from Word or online to find simple shapes that you could trace and cut out of fabric (hats, fans, shoes, bags, and simple dress outlines could all be used to fit the theme of this exchange). Or what if you took a little section of tablet weaving or something like that and just attached it to a card with a border around it. I would LOVE to get something like that! Or you could take some natural dyed yarn and stitch out a simple period embroidery pattern. That would be so freakin' cool. Even a swatch card of scraps of dyed fabrics with hand-written notes about how they were made would be fabulous.

But anyway, if you really want to participate, let us know what craft you want to work with, and I guarantee you that we can help you think of an idea for an ATC! You just have to think outside of the box.

Dude, you're totally sucking me in.

I have an amazing amount of yarn that can be knit and felted and so on, I need to see what actual fiber and roving I may have. I have bins and bins of dyes, so color isn't a problem :-D

I've also just aquired Photoshop CS 4. I have been playing all.frigging.day with it, and it just dawned on me that ATCs could be made with that, too, although I'm not sure if that is considered "cheating".

Yay for sucking you in!!! And digital art can definitely be used for ATCs! NOTHING is cheating in this project. All art is good art. :)
