At last! It's done!!!!

The hoops from hell have finally been tamed. I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out. I really like the size of them... although they seem even smaller than I thought they would be. My legs bump them when I walk, but I just need to make an effort to take smaller steps. They are VERY sturdy too. I'll try to do a little write-up on my thoughts and suggestions about using piano wire next week.

Simplicity 7216. It's out of print, but you can find them online without too much trouble. I highly recommend the pattern!

*lightbulb* So that's why you used piano wire and why boning would've been so ruinous! Silly me, I'm so used to cage crinolines that I somehow missed you were doing a covered crinoline. It looks fantastic! \o/

hehehe... yeah, I would have just bought hoop wire and used that when I started having issues with the piano wire, but I had already sewed all the channels and they were too narrow for it to fit. It would have been easier to start from scratch and do another one, but I'm just stubborn I guess. ;)

Very nice! It came out very well.

I have an 80" hoop that I use for day wear. I hit when I walk, but it's so much more practical than anything else. I don't knock stuff over.

What's the circumference of it?

I think they were 96". It seems like a more realistic daywear size (vs. the larger hoops).

Yay for a finished crinoline! I think that hoops are the most annoying part of 1860s's dress. Making them, that is. Cutting all that wire.

Ah, I wondered. That's a good day size, maybe even a bit small. I'm planning a 90" one for working use, basically just to give some fullness and keep me from having to wear four petticoats. It'll look pretty small on me, with my height and long legs. 108" is the other "standard" day size I hear.
